Taxonomy and Folksonomy Project

I was immediately drawn to the Victorian obsession with collecting and categorising just about everything, so with our initial brief on shoes decided to look at creating a Victorian style anthropologist journal that would go about listing the shoes in order of their sometimes quite strange ideas of listing things

This will continue in the categorising of my shoes based on a fairly archaic formula.

Sir Armitage Franks....

Some sketches of the great man.

Continuing to use Sir Armitage as a basis from my project, I finished creating the first part of my journal showing examples of his methods of taxonomy and will add some more photos shortly.
My next step is to use this as a spring board to create a short animation in the manner of a silent film for my next hand in.
I will be using Flash as I am a familiar with it but am hoping to use After Effects as well, to add grain and age the film so that it looks more authentic.

Sir Armitage Animation

This page doesn't seem to like uploading my video files but check under "Latest..." to view my Armitage Franks animated hand-in.

As mentioned earlier I used Adobe Flash and a little After Effects to make the movie, it's a silent film but there are sound effects and a music track to add to the atmosphere. Enjoy

Journal Part 2.

After my hand-in feedback I was told that the journal needs to look more aged and authentic to believably be a possession of Sir Franks, so I am recreating it after referencing more victorian diarys and illustrations.
I am making it again from scratch and trying to remain faithful to old techniques.

I have aged the paper with tea and torn each page and sewn them into the book by hand.
I have also inserted alternate glassine paper pages as there will be photos and similar included in the journal and I thought that this would make a nice touch that also added the air of a photographic album.

Journal 2 Continued...

Well the journal is finished and tells the tale of Sir Armitage Franks' last intrepid journey into the unknown in search of the mythical "bigfoot" and comes with a grizzly conclusion.

Most of my efforts for my next hand in have gone towards completing the diary but I am hoping to maybe make up a little Stop-motion flick to show the book off in some way.
Other than that I;m really happy with the end results and would love to revisit the character again soon. I'm sure that it would take more than being MIA for 100 years to finish off the esteemed Sir Armitage Franks, counsul to Queen Victoria HRH herself!...

We shall see....
